Sabrina Vlaškalić Tribute Concert
NEW DATE AND TIME
Sunday, March 17, 2019
Sundin Music Hall
1531 Hewitt Avenue
St Paul, MN 55104
On January 18th, we were shocked and heartbroken to learn that Sabrina Vlaškalić had been killed on January 17th when she was hit by a truck while riding her bicycle in Groningen, Netherlands. It was the day before her 30th birthday.
The Serbian-born Vlaškalić was a rising star in the classical guitar world. Known throughout Europe, her scheduled March 23rd concert for our series would have been her North American debut and was to have featured selections she planned to record next summer. The day before her death, she had learned that she had been selected to give a concert at the 2020 Guitar Foundation of America annual convention.
Described as the “new Ida Presti,” she performed throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and won over 10 special and 25 first prizes in various competitions. She made numerous TV and radio appearances in Norway, The Netherlands, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia and was professor of classical guitar at The Prince Clause Conservatoire (The Hanze University) in Groningen, The Netherlands.
Performing at the concert will be Aleksandar Hadži-Đorđević, who was one of Vlaškalić’s first teachers, as well as Maja Radovanlija, professor of guitar at the University of Minnesota, and four of her current graduate students—Milena Petković, Momčilo Aleksandrić, Filip Živanović, and Nikola Korovljev. All are natives of Serbia.
More details about the program will be added in late in February. Also see our Facebook page for more information.
