Why an Endowment?

A gift to the MGS Endowment Fund is an investment in the long-term strength of our organization. Rather than being spent in a single season, endowment gifts are invested to generate income year after year, providing MGS with a dependable source of support that complements membership dues, ticket sales, and annual giving.

Proceeds from the Endowment support the current MGS mission, with special emphasis on growing membership and expanding performance opportunities for guitarists of all musical styles — from experienced professionals to emerging young performers.

Quick Facts

  • MGS is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.

  • The Endowment Fund is held by a local institution, the St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation.

  • The MGS Board distributes no more than 5% of fund assets annually, helping ensure the Endowment keeps pace with inflation and continues to grow.

  • Gifts of any size may be added to the Endowment at any time, by anyone who shares our love of guitar music.

History of the Fund

The MGS Endowment Fund was established in 2022 to secure a permanent source of support for the organization's concerts, workshops, and educational programs. Seeded by gifts from longtime members and friends of MGS, the fund reflects a shared belief that the guitar community we've built together deserves to thrive for generations to come.

Since its founding, the Endowment has grown through additional gifts, planned bequests, and memorial contributions — including funds established in memory of members who dedicated years of service and passion to MGS. Every gift, large or small, becomes part of this lasting foundation.

Ways to Give

There are many ways to make a gift to the MGS Endowment Fund, and our Executive Committee is happy to help you find the option that best fits your goals:

  • Annual or one-time gifts — the simplest way to give; click the link on the top right side of this webpage to donate today or mail a check to P.O. Box 14986, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

  • Gifts through your will or living trust.

  • Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from an IRA.

  • Gifts of stock or appreciated securities.

  • Memorial and tribute gifts in honor of a fellow guitarist or teacher.

As with any gift, we encourage you to consult your financial or tax advisor to determine the giving option that works best for your circumstances.
