Pavel Jany & Global Jazz Collegium

Details: Global Jazz Collegium is an assembly of local and international musicians founded by the Twin Cities based guitarist and composer Pavel Jany. The group has released two albums of mostly original material and performed at the Selby Jazz Festival, TC Jazz Festival, MN State Fair and at many local jazz venues and concert series. In addition to the original material, Global Jazz Collegium's repertoire includes works by Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, Billy Cobham, Carlos Santana, Hermeto Pascoal, and other legends of jazz/fusion.

Masters of Hawaiian Music George Kahumoku, Jr., Sonny Lim & Herb Ohta, Jr.

Genre: Hawaiian guitar

Details: Three Masters, featured regularly at Maui’s renowned Slack Key Show, share the uniquely Hawaiian styles of slack-key guitar and ‘ukulele. These styles originated in the early 19th century, when Portuguese immigrants introduced the ‘ukulele to Hawai‘i. Then, Mexican cowboys brought guitars to the islands, along with their ranching knowledge. Hawaiians have made these instruments their own.
